Mud Mask Man is inspired by the Asaro Mudmen of Papua New Guinea’s Eastern Highlands and their distinctive clay masks. According to one traditional account, defeated warriors emerged from the Asaro River covered in mud, frightening their enemies who mistook them for spirits.
